Task 2 Biographical Questions & Answers:

Q1. What are his well known traits and ideals? What are some little-known qualitiies that I have learned about?

Q2. What were the influences in his early life that developed his personality and character? What were his talents? What were some experiences that might have foreshadowed that he would become successful or inspirational? What obstacles did he have to overcome to achieve what he has.

Q3. If I could meet this person today; what 2 important questions would I like to ask him? How do I think he would answer each question?

Q4. Why is Michelangelo somebody that I am inspired by?

A1: Michelangelo is famed for his artwork and sculpting skills. Although many may know of his nose disfigurement, few know if the cause of this. It was in fact Pietro Torrigiano who struck a 17 year old Michelangelo on the nose and us caused the disfigurement which is so conspicuous in all portraits of him.

A2: At the age of 13, Michelangelo was apprenticed to the painter Domenico Ghirlandaio. When he was only fourteen, his father persuaded Domenico to pay his apprentice as an artist, which was highly unusual at the time. When in 1489 Lorenzo de' Medici asked Ghirlandaio for his two best pupils, he sent Michelangelo and Francesca Granacci. From 1490 to 1492 Michelangelo attended the Humanist Academy. He studied sculpture under Bertoldo di Giovanni and whilst he was there both Michelangelo's outlook and his art were influenced by many of the most prominent philosophers and writers of the day. It was at this time that Michelangelo sculpted the reliefs "Madonna Of The Steps" and "Battle Of The Centaurs". "Battle Of The Centaurs was based on a theme suggested by Poliziano. Lorenzo de' Medici's death on April 8th 1492 brought a reversal if Michelangelo's circumstances. He left the security of the Medici court and returned to his father's house.

A3: If I could honestly meet Michelangelo today (which I can't because hello, he's dead....) and if I were able to ask him 2 important questions I'd be pretty stoked aye? Anyways I would ask him; "How do you feel when you create a masterpiece that brings smiles and sometimes tears to the faces of the people of the world?" And "If any; what advice would you give to the million youngsters hoping to follow in your footsteps?" To describe how he would answer each question because I've only researched him. Its not like I've met him in person or anything. But I think he might answer the first question something along the lines of this:
Beh ad essere onesti, a volte non sono nemmeno sicuro se quello che sto creando è un capolavoro a tutti. Ma quando ho dipingere o scolpire Ho appena chiudo gli occhi eimmaginare il wolrd un posto migliore nella mia mente e quando apro gli occhi, un capolavorosi trova di fronte a me. Allora lo guardo più vicino e poi mi siedo indietro e pensare a me "wowsono qualificati".The English translation of this is:
"Well to be honest, sometimes I am not even sure if what I am creating is a masterpiece at all. But when I paint or sculpt I just close my eyes and imagine the wolrd a better place in my mind and when I open my eyes, a masterpiece lies in front of me. So I look at it closer and then I sit back and think to myself "wow I'm skilled." And I think he would answer the second question with a reply something along the lines of this:
"Attualmente sono lusingato che tu dici ci stanno seguendo molti le mie orme, perché in realtàavevo solo seguito il mio sogno. Quindi, se ci sono come dici tu 'milioni a seguito i miei passi'l'unico consiglio che avrei potuto dare a queste persone è: 'Segui il tuo cuore e lottare per ciò in cui credi, perché se non stanno per nulla - si cadrà per tutto. '" To which of course the English translation would be:
"Actually I'm flattered that you say there are many following in my footsteps because really I was only following my dream. So if there are as you say 'millions following my footsteps' the only advice that I could possibly give to those people is: 'Follow your heart and fight for what you believe in because if you don't stand for anything - you will fall for everything.'"external image learn-italian-florence-italy.gif external image 220px-Michelangelo_by_Giulio_Bonasone.jpg external image florenz.jpg

A4: Michelangelo is somebody that I am inspired by because he had a lot of hardships in his life, yet somehow he still managed to do what he loved. Which is something that takes a lot of strength. Especially at a young age. So I look up to him and his accomplishments because I am a person who believes very strongly in standing up for yourself and what you believe in. I could never imagine not having the freedom to do what I want in life. But that is a freedom that you have to fight for, which is what he did. So I think that if I could learn anything form Michelangelo; thats what it would be. Someday I hope to inspire someone just like he has inspired me.
